Tina Brown’s Talk Magazine Launched On This Day in 1999

Talk was editor/journalist/author Tina Brown’s big project after she left The New Yorker (and several years before The Daily Beast). It lasted three years, was a joint venture with Miramax and burned through a reported $50 million, and won Brown a $1 million fee to just… stop. That’s not a bad price for just stopping, and as a bonus, she pickpocketed Harvey Weinstein himself, which is satisfying. Anyway, they ferried everyone to Liberty Island for the party, which is QUITE a way to start using your Miramax money, and I’m sure it was catnip for Manhattanites in media circles and the actors that ran with them — and we have not one, but TWO surprise shaved heads.
