Zara is set to launch an exciting childrenswear capsule collection in collaboration with the New York-based label Sea. This coveted line of ready-to-wear clothing and accessories, designed for children aged six to fourteen, will debut with a pop-up shop in South Hampton and be available online and in select Zara stores across the US and Europe starting July 18th.
By partnering with Sea, a bohemian and romantic style label founded in 2006 by Monica Paolini and Sean Monahan, Zara has crafted a collection that embodies the spirit of freedom and self-expression. The capsule features vintage-inspired and relaxed styles, including denim pieces with patchwork details, a bomber jacket adorned with crochet elements, and sweatpants and shorts embroidered with lace.
Photographed by Quentin De Briey and styled by Thistle Brown, the collection also includes pastel-toned and floral-printed pajamas, along with Mary Jane-style ballet flats. Sea, known for its playful yet pragmatic designs incorporating craft-inspired details like patchwork and crochet, has created a collection that balances joy and whimsy without being overtly childish.
Sea’s founders, Monica Paolini and Sean Monahan, have always rooted their designs in a sense of childlike wonder, drawing inspiration from their shared upbringing in Newburgh, New York. Their vision for this collection is to inspire while remaining accessible, offering pieces that are stylish, practical, playful, and sophisticated. As Monahan explains, “We wanted this collection to have that special something, and of course, be functional and comfortable.”
This collaboration with Zara offers well-priced, well-made clothes that encourage self-expression and imagination, catering to a range of baby and kids sizes. As parents themselves, Paolini and Monahan recognized the need for such clothing early in their careers and have now found an opportunity to reach new audiences through this partnership.
Despite the scale of the collaboration, Paolini and Monahan began their design process from a personal place. “When we started to envision the collection, we started to sketch on an image of Rei,” Paolini shares, referring to Monahan’s five-year-old daughter. Rei’s curiosity and vibrant spirit were key components in the design process, beautifully captured in the campaign featuring free-spirited city kids.
These clothes are meant to be worn and loved, providing children with a wardrobe they can experiment with. “We quickly learned, especially with Rei, that dressing up is a real daily joy and form of self-expression,” Monahan said. “Kids are full of life, curiosity, and dreams, and we felt inspired by that vibrant feeling.”
