The recent Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland was a night to remember, not only for the legends being honoured, but also for the fashion statements that accompanied the celebration. Cher, alongside Mary J. Blige, received her well-deserved recognition, and Zendaya’s homage to the iconic singer was a highlight of the evening.
The ‘Challengers’ actress turned heads in a vintage Bob Mackie gown from the Fall 2001 Couture collection titled ‘Foreign Intrigue.’ This striking dress, characterised by its sheer fabric, daring cut-outs, and provocative silhouette, evoked memories of Cher’s own groundbreaking style. The choice of this particular piece was both a nod to Cher’s legacy and a testament to Zendaya’s ability to channel the past while making it relevant today.
While Zendaya effortlessly wore the gown, some might argue that its design was a little too risqué considering the sheerness, the series of cut-outs, the underboob, how low the bottom half of the dress sits on her body, and how high the slit is.
However, Zendaya did not leave anything to chance; as she arrived with the original white and gold coat showcased on the runway.
Zendaya’s transformation did not stop with her dress. Her hairstylist also paid tribute, reverting her summer blonde hair to the rich black hue reminiscent of Cher’s iconic style. With long, flowing locks that grazed her past her waist, Zendaya completed the essence of the superstar she was honouring. The finishing touches—a pair of gold Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps and an array of Bvlgari jewels.
In honouring Cher, Zendaya not only celebrated a musical icon but also showcased the power of fashion to connect generations. The evening served as a reminder that style is an enduring language that transcends time, and in this case, it spoke volumes.
