Not Everyone Is in Cannes: See Daisy Ridley

Daisy here is promoting a new movie called The Young Woman and the Sea, which is not about a girl who is really into Hemingway or something, but rather — per Professor Google — “the story of competitive swimmer Trudy Ederle, who, in 1926, was the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel.” And now the oceanic shades of this dress made sense (beyond the fact that it’s just pretty on her). (Per this contemporaneous piece in the New York Times, there was a moment when she approached the UK — she swam from France to England and not the other way — when British immigration didn’t want to let her come ashore because she didn’t have her passport.) I think this top look is lovely — it’s custom Prada — and also sort of says, “I absolutely was in contention for Claire Foy’s role in The Crown.”

This look says, “this jacket is meant to be oversized but it’s still maybe a little big for me? I don’t know. Everyone else is in France!”
